Carol Lai - Challenge Her Sub 6 Record

Carol Lai is true Ace in "Hot Ironman” club Taichung. She keeps the fastest record in the club: 6 hours and 10 minutes at half-ironman 70.3.

This lean and little lady is seldom absent from group training sessions, and we also seldom see her overloaded. She would always get into her focus mode on the training process and finish it. As an amateur club member, we just could tell she was different from others.

In just one year we saw astonishing improvement from her: back in 2017 her record was at 7 hours 10 minutes. Yes, that’s 1 HOUR FASTER than her new record.

Anything is possible - Carol lives like this motto, and from this easy, yet difficult belief she arranges her time and life to the fullest. In training, she understands her physical conditions: she knows she doesn’t like hot weather, so she did a heat training. She joined UA training camp to get faster on running, and also adjusted her supply plan very early before the race started. “In a long distance race, it’s extremely important you should have a deep conversation with yourself”, she said. “Focus, and relax yourself when you start to feel nervous”. In the end of the race, she finished 2 hours 8 minutes in running, even when she had no legs at the last final 3km.

To arrange your own training plans is easier for those who have a higher standard on themselves. But at the same time, it’s easier to fall into a self-doubt trap. They will doubt if they train less, or the quality of training is not good enough. Carol really made some more breakthroughs besides record times.

XERO wish she will reach her sub 6 hours record in Challenge Taiwan 2018.
